Highways Engineer 

Location: South Yorkshire

Salary: £25,000 - 30,000

My client is one of the Highways Agency's Managing Agent Contractors (MAC) for Area 12. They are responsible for maintenance and improvements to the motorways and trunk road network of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Our primary office locations are Normanton, Tingley, York, West Cowick and Aston.

Their Highways Engineering Department is split into three teams:
o Renewals: Based in Aston, this team is responsible for the design of highways maintenance schemes typically ranging in value from £500k to £5M.
o Improvements: Based in Normanton, this team is responsible for undertaking scheme identification studies and designs of highway improvement schemes up to £1M.
o Value Management: Based in Normanton and Aston, this team is responsible for the preliminary design, justification and value management of highways maintenance schemes ranging in value from £50k to £5M.

The Role

This position is based with the engineering team at the Normanton office in Yorkshire.

Specific responsibilities typically involve:

o Design and Documentation of highways improvement schemes
o Specialist Design Functions
o Specialist liaison with Client and others
o Financial Awareness
o Operation of QM procedures
o Assistance with risk management

The Person

The candidate must have an Engineering Degree and be either fully chartered or working towards this qualification. 5 Years experience in the construction industry with at least 3 years in highway design is required. It is essential that the right candidate has an in-depth knowledge of Highways Agency technical standards, procedures and procurement methods. Knowledge of AutoCAD is an advantage as is a clean driving licence
